Talking about the Holy week, the week that precedes the Easter, it is here with us

Let’s talk about the Holy Thursday.Well  Holy Thursday is one of the days in Holy week and it  is one day before good Friday. This is the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples ,the last supper .the holy This day has been greatly anticipated and has been marked on the Catholic calendar .On Holy Thursday four events are commemorated ;the washing of the disciples feet ,the institution of the sacrament of the holy Eucharistic at the last supper ,the agony in the garden of Gethsemane and the betrayal of Christ by Judas Iscariot .

First on this day Jesus celebrates the last supper with His disciples at the room upstairs .This is normally the Eucharistic celebration .this celebration constantly renew and increase our new life in Christ.

Second there is the washing of the disciples feet .Jesus did this as an act of humility and service and thus setting the an example that we should love and serve one another with humility.In the Catholic faith this is done by choosing twelve Christians whose feet are washed during the holy Thursday mass celebration.

The argony in the garden of Gethsemane discloses the human nature of Christ.The sacrifice he was to endure for the salvation of the world was imminent.His prayer reveal the depth of agony and sorrow jesus had to go through.Jesus offered his unconditional love and trust to the father and reached the extreme limits of self denial in order to accomplish His fathers will.The agony demonstrates his act of absolute love and obedience.

Judas betrays Jesus through a kiss ,a kiss was a sign of friendship and love. At the end the death and resurrection of jesus rendered evil powerless.

On this day the light and darkness ,joy and sorrow are experienced simultaneously. There are special hymns sang on this day and the service contained in special liturgical book. This mass is undertaken by all Catholic faithful throughout the world. At Moi University’s St. Micheals chaplaincy the Holy mass celebration shall commence at 5 PM today.
